PW Wednesdays: Breakfast Pizza

This pizza… Oh, this pizza.

It. was. amazing, ya’ll!

I mean, come on, it’s breakfast (I LOVE breakfast) meets pizza (man, do I love pizza!!!), why WOULDN’T I love it??!

Well, if you haven’t figured it out, it’s PW Wednesday again and this week’s recipe, the Breakfast Pizza, was selected by the lovely Rachel (Baked by Rachel).

EXCELLENT. CHOICE.

It’s crazy how tasty and how filling this bad boy is!

Shredded hash browns, peppers (& onions that I added), crispy bacon, eggs, salsa and cheese… Oh. baby.

Now, I like a nice crispy pizza so here are a few tips/pointers to help you achieve just that:

  1. Par-bake the crust on a pizza stone. I place my rolled out dough on a pre-heated pizza stone and allow it to cook for 30-60 seconds (just enough to make it semi-cooked but not browned). I find that getting cooking process started prior to loading the toppings on the dough, helps make for a crispier crust! Note: I do this with most of my pizzas!
  2. The amount of toppings suggested in the ingredients are WAY too much - it’s definitely enough to make 2 pizzas… If you overload a pizza with toppings, it will be a soggy pizza.
  3. I subbed out a mix of Monterey and Colby cheeses in place of the fresh mozzarella. I don’t like to use fresh mozzarella on homemade pizza because it has a LOT of moisture in it. Moisture in the cheese = soggy pizza (and unhappy Tina)!
And that, my friends, is how it’s done! 😉

    Oh Tina,

Your pictures leave me hungry….I’ve always thought, “Mmm, pizza for breakfast?!” But this defines it in a whole new way. I love homemade pizza, but this takes it up a notch. I also want to try my hand at grilling pizza this year….can you believe I’ve never done that?

btw…where did you buy your pizza peel? I need one that actively will scoop the pizza out, not just for show. Do you use yours?

oh, girl, i couldn’t live without my pizza paddle - mine is from Williams Sonoma i think… it was my mom’s from YEARS ago and she handed it off when I got married. $40 bucks might seem steep, but like I said - the thing is at least 8-9 years old, heavily used, and going strong!

I didn’t plan out my timing very well and ran out of time to start pre-heating my pizza stone, and I really wish I would have - pizza stones just make pizza better. And with all the ingredients it totally would have saved the whole somewhat mushy middle that didn’t quite cook as well as the outsides.

This was a total winner, my fave recipe so far I think. Can’t wait to see what you pick next!

It looks delicious! I made a breakfast pizza this weekend, and it is definitely destined to become a Saturday tradition. I love the idea of adding veggies and hash browns to it, too. Perfect!
